A Kidney for Alan: Give the Gift of Life
Just under 13 years ago, while living in Guam and shortly after welcoming their youngest child, Alan was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease called IgA Nephropathy, which eventually developed into Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). For years, he managed the condition quietly, living life with strength and hope.
Today, Alan’s kidney function has declined to the point where he qualifies for the kidney transplant waiting list. He is currently in an inactive status, which allows him time to search for a living kidney donor before dialysis becomes necessary. Doctors are hoping for a preemptive transplant, as patients who receive a transplant before dialysis generally experience better long-term outcomes.
Alan is not someone who asks for help. He has always been the one to support others quietly and without hesitation. But he is surrounded by a strong and loving group of family and friends who are determined to make sure he does not have to face this journey alone.
While many medical costs are covered by insurance, there are still significant out-of-pocket expenses. These may include round-trip travel to Boston for potential donors, caregiving and lodging during recovery, and other costs not fully covered by insurance. Over the next few years, it is also possible that multiple donors may be tested in hopes of finding the right match for Alan.
This campaign exists to help provide Alan with the best possible support and to ease the financial burden on his family, so they can focus on what matters most—his health, healing, and future.
Alan’s request is simple but life-changing: if someone is in good health and interested in exploring kidney donation, or knows someone who might be, they are encouraged to contact Karen Curreri, the Living Donor Coordinator at Boston Medical Center:

All inquiries are confidential. There is no obligation — just information and the opportunity to see if a match is possible.
Even if donation isn’t an option, support through sharing Alan’s story or raising awareness makes a meaningful difference for him and his family.
One act. One match. One life changed forever.
💙 Thank you for helping Alan on his journey to a second chance at life.
