Hello, I am a 48 year old male who has recently had neck and back surgeries performed. During examinations, my doctors discovered degenerative changes in my spine which is alternatively called arthritis. While these surgeries did help with the pain that I was enduring, they didn't magically solve all of my problems. I was naive to think that there was some kind of temporary disability assistance since I have paid into Social Security all of my life, but there isn't any such thing. I was needing help with my bills while I have been recovering from these surgeries, but I have had no such luck. I applied for TANF (welfare support) but was denied because I have no children. I applied for SNAP (food assistance) and was granted a monthly award for it, but those don't pay for my car insurance, utility bills or personal hygiene products. My biggest concern is my utility bills and I have applied for LIHEAP but they will only help once a year. While I appreciate the help from LIHEAP, it doesn't help with my water or phone bill which keep rolling in every month. My only choice was to file for a disability claim in which they have rejected me 4 times pretty much because I am not over 50 years old. I do have a contingency lawyer representing me, but it has been a long and exhausting three years in which I struggle to get my utilities paid. Unfortunately, I cannot accept any kind of job position, even a non-labor work from home gig or they will automatically disqualify me for SSDI benefits and could accuse me of fraud. I have exhausted all of my resources for financial help. There are so many people that think that there are thousands of resources for indigent people and all they have to do is apply or ask. That is simply not true! While there are some programs and churches that will help needy individuals or families, most of them will only help people in their local area and require an ID for proof of residence. I should have been approved three years ago for SSDI when I applied but they are like an insurance company, they are in the business of making money and not spending it. So almost everyone who applies for SSDI is denied the first 2 or 3 times because they want you to surrender and go back to work. I would love to go back to work, but I can't because I will have my claim dismissed immediately. The weird part about our fabulous government rules, is after you are awarded SSDI benefits, you are allowed to go back to work! You just can't make more than $1,600 a month. According to the Law Firm Atticus, the chances for someone to get approved for disability doubles if you are over the age of 50. This is terribly disappointing and embarrassing to have to beg for help and I wouldn't ask for it if I didn't genuinely need it, but I do. If you could find it in your heart to help me out even just a little bit will go a long way. For those of you who do donate to my cause, thank you in advance and may God bless you!
