Hi, my name is Hope and this is our somewhat incredible story. My husband and I have 3 boys, and to give you a little overview, we have been dealing with pretty big medical issues for the last 14 years. Between 2010 and now, we have experienced 5 brain surgeries, and 3 types of cancer.
Our oldest son Hunter is currently fighting cancer for the 2nd time. In 2020, at age 18, he was diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Carcinoid Lung Cancer and had two lobes of his right lung removed. In 2024, at age 21, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer. It is also a neuroendocrine cancer, but a completely new occurrence. He is currently doing chemo to try to keep the tumors stable. He has been doing this treatment for just over a year now. Hunter is now 22 and for someone with this diagnosis, he is incredibly positive. He is extremely tired from treatment, but still tries to work part time and live as normal a life as possible. He also has autism and does not drive, so I take him to all of his oncology appointments which are about 3 hours from home.
Hunter also has a brain cyst that was operated on when he was 8 years old (in 2010). That's what started this journey. His youngest brother was also diagnosed with a similar brain cyst at age 5 (in 2014) and had 5 brain surgeries over the course of 10 years. Four in a matter of four years, and then the fifth one last May.
During the start of Hunter's treatment last year, I was also diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy. It is a lot to take in and manage.
We have a fabulous support system, but are in need of help to keep our heads above water financially. My husband and I miss a lot of work for appointments and I usually use all my vacation days within the first half of the year. Life doesn't stop and bills still keep coming. We just need some room to breathe sometimes.
Any help will go toward bills and trips to doctor appointments. Some might go to fun things that Hunter asks for.
We know our story is just that. Ours. Everyone has something they are going through and I know we could be doing worse. We are thankful to be here, still fighting. We appreciate any and all help received.
God Bless.
