UPDATE: I just found this out from Jennifer:
Dear friends and family we just received the bad news that we have lost the appeal with the insurance company and they expect my Mom who cannot even get herself to a bedside commode yet and who is a still non weight bearing on her shoulder and leg to go home to a house not equipped for this and to our father who is 2 weeks away from 85 and is having some serious back issues of his own. The facility knows on Monday she has an appointment with the shoulder specialist and that more restrictions may be released which would open her up to more physical therapy opportunities. Currently with insurance, the facility is $200 a day, but will be going to over $500 / day private pay. We were hoping and praying she could stay there until both non weight bearing restrictions were lifted so she can get the help she needs to start using her arm and leg again SAFELY so she can learn to walk again, drive again etc. As any of you who have gone through this know, this process is a NIGHTMARE and a big game. PLEASE help our Mom/Grandma/Grammy in any way possible! $5 would help!!! The link is on my page and is shareable! Thanks in advance!!!!
Hello friends!
We were searching for a way to help out our friends (and adopted daughters') Mom & Dad/Grandma & Grandpa during this difficult time. Jennifer Moneyhun, Laura Cotter, Cailey Loeffler and Cameron Szymczak could really use your help. (and don't forget Cydney & Liam Cotter) We know that Carol and Jerry would NEVER ask for this help on their own, but they need it and more importantly, they deserve it. They have an enormous amount of worry right now, this could help alleviate some stress for them.
On Friday, October 13th Carol had a terrible fall. As she is a normally very healthy and active person, she was at the gym and fell on the track. She sustained many horrible injuries. She had two small brain bleeds, a dislocated shoulder, a broken humerus and a femur broken in several places. Due to the fact that she had a bad fall on ice in 2004 and has a hip replacement on that same side, the surgery on the femur was very complicated and a specialty surgeon needed to be found. She will be non-weight bearing on that leg for possibly six more weeks. The shoulder was so bad that a reverse shoulder replacement was needed and she is non-weight bearing on that as well. During her time at Christ hospital, she also needed a blood transfusion and had to stay until October 31st when they felt is was safe to release her to a skilled facility.
During her time at Warren Barr she has been having many ups and downs and has been dealing with excruciating pain, stomach issues and the normal things that come with being completely non-weight bearing on one whole side of your body and being bed ridden for most of the day. But, even with the horrible pain and complications, Carol has been making strides with her occupational and physical therapy. They are teaching her to sit up and get to the side of the bed, they are working on the strength of her “good side” and are starting to do some range of motion exercises on her side with the injuries. She has a very long and painful road ahead.
Now comes the “why” we are asking for your help. Even though the surgeon wrote a letter stating that she should remain at Warren Barr until fully weight bearing because it is NOT SAFE, the facility gave her a release date of Saturday, November 18th. They have since fought and got one more week. Jennifer and Laura have ensured Carol that “no matter what” she is not going home until she is comfortable, can at least get herself to a bedside commode and it is safe for her and Jerry who is having some issues now of his own. The last thing needed is another tragedy because she goes home too soon. An appeal is being submitted next week, but if this switches to “private pay”, and it will soon even with the appeal, the already climbing bills are going to be astronomical.
Carol and Jerry live on social security and have a very modest savings. They do not have pensions or 401ks. Both Carol and Jerry still work and at a minimum Carol will not be back at work until June 1, 2024. As most of you also know, Laura lost Brian not too long ago and has the big responsibility of raising two children on her own, and now is also helping tremendously going to see Carol and work on all of the details being thrown at them because she is very close to the facility. Jerry is not working as much due to being with Carol as much as possible and because of his recent health issues, and Jennifer cut down her work hours because she helps Cailey & Jordan with Carol's beautiful Great-Grandbaby Beau. Hospital bills/co-pays, facility bills/co-pays, many, many future months of PT, OT, surgeon visits, home health care and making changes in Carol and Jerry's home are going to be hitting them hard. There is no way into their home without going up steps, the front room needs to be made into a hospital room/bedroom because the bedrooms are up 13 steep stairs and the bathroom on the main level needs to be changed to have a walk in shower. There is a lot needed to get Carol through this and back to the very healthy and energetic person she was before this fall! Like we said above, this sweet and wonderful Mom, wife, mother-in-law, Grandma, Grammy and friend to MANY, needs our help and deserves our help. She has worked way too hard her whole life to have money stop her from getting her the care she needs!!!
Please help in any way you can, no matter how small. And in addition, please keep up with the prayers and send her good vibes to help the mental recovery of this horrible situation as well.
With Love,
Lisa Culligan & Julie Schmutz (best of friends with Jennifer and very much now a part of this whole beautiful family)
