This fundraiser is to help Chet and Melissa with medical/travel expenses to undergo treatment for Chet as we navigate his newly diagnosed Leukemia battle. 

Chet will be undergoing treatment in Seattle as there are no places that offer these treatments in rural Montana where they live.

UPDATE:

Chet started chemo today including 4 traditional meds with one additional med from a clinical trial. He will be getting this 5th med twice during the course of the first 28 days. At the end of 28 days an additional bone marrow biopsy will take place and hopefully will show less active cancer cells. If he does have less he will continue chemo in an outpatient setting (we are inpatient for this next 28 days) in which we will have to pay for housing within 30 mins of the hospital, meaning we will not be able to stay with his sister Jessica as she lives an hour away.  The cheapest option is $82/day and is going to add up very fast since we will need to stay there for 3 months.  I am out of vacation time so am not getting paid, he has a month of vacation time and then should be getting some union disability payments which will be much less than he makes at the Meat Block.

We are so very grateful for everyone's donations thus far!  Please continue sharing his story as we will need all the financial help we can get, and that doesn't even account for the hundreds of thousands of medical bills we will have.  Any help, even small amounts, will be greatly appreciated as we continue this journey.

UPDATE #3:

Chet finished his first course of chemotherapy and is doing well, now we wait in the hospital for the next 3 to 4 weeks to see if it is working…this is where ALL the prayers and thoughts will be super helpful!  Hoping now he (we) can start to get some actual rest now that he won't be getting woken up at 2:30 a.m. to start treatments for the entire night. We are exhausted and the next few weeks will be trying while waiting to see his fate. 🤞🤞🤞

Paperwork…SO MUCH PAPERWORK! Financial aid applications, disability applications, FMLA paperwork…where does it end?!  I have filled out SO many papers in this last week my head is spinning 🤕 Hoping we can get some help for the mountains of medical bills I don't even want to see when they start to roll in 🫣.

To everyone who has already donated, we cannot say thank you enough, this was something completely unexpected and we can still not wrap our minds around the whole cancer diagnosis let alone the ultimate financial stress it has put us under. Any donations are extremely appreciated, even the smallest amount adds up.  Once we are allowed to leave the hospital, the housing they want us to stay in is a dedicated leukemia “home” that will be $74/night when booked monthly and we likely will need to book it for 3 months, that is approximately $2300/month! Seattle costs are insane when coming from MT!!  Not to mention we still have our “regular” bills and mortgage at home so we don't lose our house. 

And and all financial help or wisdom is immensely appreciated.
