About this fundraiser

Matthea Mathurin is a driven, creative, and curious individual with a lifelong passion for dinosaurs and the science of paleontology. She has pursued excellence in both academics and extracurricular activities, showcasing her discipline and perseverance as a four-year varsity tennis player throughout high school. Her athletic dedication is matched by her academic and creative achievements. At the age of sixteen, she wrote and published Prehistoric Pelagic, a work that reflects her deep fascination with prehistoric life and her love for storytelling. This accomplishment not only demonstrates her strong writing skills but also her ability to commit to ambitious projects and bring them to completion at a young age.

Reading and writing have always been central to Matthea’s life, serving as both a creative outlet and a way to explore her curiosity about the world. Her love for dinosaurs has shaped her long-term career aspiration to become a paleontologist who not only conducts groundbreaking research but also works within a law firm specializing in environmental protection and the advancement of paleontological study. She envisions a career that combines scientific exploration with legal advocacy to protect the Earth’s natural history and ensure the expansion of paleo research for future generations.

Beyond her academic and creative pursuits, Matthea is committed to making a difference in her community. She has worked with CrossPurpose, a Denver based organization, within a program that taught financial literacy to underserved BIPOC communities and assisted with childcare services. This experience deepened her dedication to service and sharpened her ability to communicate, teach, and work collaboratively with people from diverse backgrounds. Matthea’s life so far reflects a unique blend of scientific passion, creative talent, athletic dedication, and community service. Whether she is uncovering stories from the prehistoric past, advocating for environmental preservation, or helping others build a better future, she approaches every challenge with focus, determination, and a genuine love for learning. With her sights set on a career in paleontology and environmental law, she continues to build the skills, knowledge, and experiences that will allow her to make a lasting impact on both science and society.
