My oldest daughter Destiny Washington is 26 years old. She's outgoing, independant and so selfless. She went to work the afternoon of Sunday November 23rd and never came home that night. Unbeknownst to us Destiny had been in a car accident and is now in for the fight of her. A passerby had found her car upside down in a ditch. She is alive but she had been upside down in the car for about 11 hours in the cold. She is so swollen she is unrecognizable and her body temperature is extremely low. She was rushed to the hospital via life flight and immediately taken to a trauma bay. The doctors determined her vertebrae was separated at C6 & C7 and spinal cord was damaged from C4 through T1 (controls breathing, feeling and movement). She has had surgery to remove the damaged cartilage, blood & spinal fluid from between the vertebrae, put in a bone graph and metal rods. The second surgery will be to reduce the swelling in the spinal cord, not sure when this will be. She is going to be permanently paralyzed. The spinal rehab the neurosurgeon wants to send her to is out of state. She is opening her eyes and nodding her head yes and no. She is having breathing issues and they are not sure if the vent will be permanent or not. They are slowly reducing the vent pressure because every time they try to take her off the vent her heart rate and blood pressure drop to life threatening levels. With this happening cardiology was called in to consult and decided that a temporary pacemaker was needed.
This is going to be a long wait and see process with not a a great foreseeable outcome. All we can do is keep praying. Thank you everyone for all your thoughts and prayers. God Bless You All!!!!
