For those who may not know, our daddy had a terrible accident on September 14th. He was topping a tree and the branch swung back knocking him 35 feet to the ground. His ribcage was shattered from rib 1-12 on his left side which essentiall caved in his chest cavity, broken clavicl, his aorta had a small tear that required a stint and he had a puncture to his left lung, both lungs collapsed, several spinal fractures, a small brain bleed and several other injuries. It is literally by the grace of God and the trauma team at UK that he is still on this side of living. He has been in ICU untill 10/05 when they moved him to the trama floor. As traumatic as this has been, it unfortunately isn't the only hardship we are facing right now. The Friday after the accident, our step mom Margaret, had her first round of chemo. This is her second battle with cancer and the treatment this time is very aggressive.
Now, the reason we have created this fundraiser.
Our dad is a very active man. Although retired, at 66 years old, he works 7 days a week, year round tending to his and Margaret's 6 acres of property and doing work around their little home (that he built by hand might I add). In the winter time, he chops wood from his property and sells it for extra income for the year. They live happy and comfortably on their very tight budget but the extra money that will be lost this year due to the accident will make it very hard for them to both have to travel to and from doctors appointments/chemo. Margaret is receiving chemo in Lexington, an hours away from where they live and our dad will have recovery care in Somerset, around 30 minutes away.
They would never ask for help on their own but we know they will need it and would be overwhelmingly grateful for all the help they can get. If there is anything you can donate to help them out, we as his children would be so greatful. We understand not everyone is in the position to help financially so a share is just as appreciated. Thanks to anyone who has gotten this far and please keep our family in your prayers.
