Over 10 years ago my big sister, Cheri Hoagburg, started her determined and consuming journey to beat Cancer. 

The mountains and valleys that define the terrain of this journey have steadily ticked off like milestones on a long highway.  The first mile-marker was discovered during a routine colonoscopy in 2014.  Surgery allowed Cheri to move into the next phase with a clear colon; however, the cancer spread into her lungs. Chemotherapy defined this phase of the journey but never prevented nodules from growing back.  A deep valley in the journey marked another milestone when her lung collapsed during a microwave ablation treatment.  Despite these challenges for a few years the road gradually gained altitude. 

A routine checkup in the Spring of 2024 indicated significant growth and a treatment plan needed to be devised.  Simultaneously she struggled with what was believed to be a frozen shoulder but later diagnosed as cancer in her shoulder.  She revisited the mile marker of radiation but following a slight uptick it was later discovered that the cancer had lodged in her thyroid and down her arm.  Immunotherapy often offers elevation on a cancer journey but Cheri is not a candidate due to her rare type of colon cancer. 

We find ourselves at a crossroads.  Singular traditional treatment is not yielding the progress required to win against cancer.  As a result Cheri has decided to go “ALL IN” with a comprehensive blend of traditional and alternative medicine at the Sanoviv Medical Institute.  They offer a three week intensive combination of conventional, alternative and fully integrative programs to spawn optimal health. 

This is not traditional, it is functional.  But insurance doesn’t cover the expense.  We need your help.

Cheri has trekked on this journey, surveying every map, reading every account of other journeyman on this trail and embraced every possible option to kick cancer.  She has continued to work, raise her family and be a devoted spouse as well as a terrific daughter and the best sister imaginable.  And a more recent highlight is that she can see the approaching mile marker later this year, that will make her a Grandmother.

If you've walked beside Cheri on any portion of this journey you will know her to be STRONG beyond measure, encouraging others amidst her own pain and always the entrepreneur, trying to figure out how to make it better, easier and manageable for the next person. She has always been a “Go Getter” and has not/will not let this define her. She is a daughter of a KING and walks her Catholic Faith out in her everyday life. She will talk with you for hours about how it has carried her through the darkest of valleys and gives her a Hope for eternity with Jesus. Her St. Joseph community, where she serves almost every day, has been her “life-line”.
