January 5th Mike was taken by ambulance to AdventHealth Dade City and diagnosed with sepsis. It started either in his right heel or his previously replaced left knee. He went into septic shock and many of his organs began to fail. He was in critical condition for several days. my doctor decided that Rite Aid was no longer salvageable at that point we had transferred to Adventhealth Zephyrhills to the ICU. On January 9th they performed a below the knee amputation. Because of the rampant infection they had to make the decision to leave that incision open. Ultimately it lead to massive blood loss. Did not come down as much as they were considering they were reviewing the source of the infection that had travel through the body become septic. The next priority was removing his left knee replacement. We were given several options and most of them sucked. The best option was to put a straight bar through where his joint had been. So his left leg does not bend until he’s able to have that rod removed and an actual knee joint implanted. His white counts have dropped and he’s starting to do better. Our challenge now is that Mike can not work, I’m trying hard to find a job, but my schedule revolves around taking care of him. We’re just at the start of this recovery phase. After this, we have lots of work to do on our house to make it wheelchair friendly for Mike. Anything you can contribute to help us will be so very appreciated. Mike’s family has helped us immensely but there is only so much they can do. Its going to take a whole village to get Mike rehabilitated and get him back home. Thank you, everyone, and God bless. ❤️

Rehab Time
I was able to actually lay next to Mike and snuggle for a few minutes. That was a first since all of this started. Mike and I are so grateful for all of the support we’ve received. However, we are still very much in need. The closest rehab facility was in Brooksville and as painful as it is I’m having to limit my visits to 3-4 days a week because it’s too expensive to drive the hour and a half every day. Mike’s working very hard to get out of this rehab center, but that does create another issue. We need to set some things up at home to make our house livable for Mike. His family has been covering the majority of our bills. We are so blessed that they’ve been able to help, but they’re pretty much tapped out. So unfortunately we’re still in need of some help. Again, thank you all so much for your support. ❤️ Much love, Mike and Ashley
