Since 2020, Segsger Suul Shaggy Tails Animal Rescue has been active in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, as a registered NGO. We rescue abandoned, homeless, injured, and sick animals in urgent need. Our organization operates solely on donations, with no government funding. Mongolia’s severe climate, with temperatures dropping as low as –50°C, makes street survival nearly impossible, resulting in many stray dogs and cats freezing or starving each year.

Over the years, we have:

• Rescued over 150 dogs and cats.

• Performed 200+ spay/neuter surgeries using our own funding and donor support.

• Rehomed 63 animals based on thorough screening.

• Currently care for 65 animals — 45 dogs and 20 cats.

Despite these efforts, we continue to face challenges, including being forced to move three times due to hostility from those opposed to animal welfare.

Mongolia currently has about 300,000 stray dogs and cats, with around 100,000 shot and killed each year. This large-scale killing costs taxpayers 1.8 billion MNT annually.

Our goal is to establish a fully equipped, safe, and humane Animal Rescue & Care Center, which will include:

• A veterinary clinic

• Training and rehabilitation areas

• Food preparation facilities

• Safe indoor and outdoor living spaces

• Play areas

• The architectural plans are already in progress. Once completed, this facility will provide a new beginning and a chance at life for countless animals suffering on the streets.
• Thousands of animals being massively culled each year by Ulaanbaatar city authorities.
• Uncontrolled breeding and irresponsible ownership leaving many animals abandoned on the streets to die.
