About this fundraiser

I’ve known Melissa Crowell-Hawkins since high school. She’s always been the kind of person who shows up for others—compassionate, thoughtful, and strong. Today, she needs all of us to show up for her. She has given me permission to make this request on her behalf.

Melissa was married to her abuser for 18 years. Over nearly two decades, she endured ongoing emotional, physical, and psychological abuse—often in silence, and often behind closed doors. Her abuser was eventually convicted and sent to prison for his violence. But even after his release two years ago, the abuse has continued—now taking the form of harassment, intimidation, and control.

In a cruel twist, Melissa is now being sued by her abuser’s own parents for repayment of a loan that he borrowed before going to prison. This is not just a legal battle—it’s another form of abuse, designed to keep her financially trapped and emotionally drained. It’s a continuation of the same control and manipulation she has been trying so hard to escape.

Melissa is doing everything she can to break free and protect herself, but the legal and financial pressure is overwhelming. She needs urgent support to finalize her divorce, secure her safety, and begin to rebuild her life.

This fundraiser will help Melissa and her kids with critical, immediate needs, including:

  • Legal assistance for divorce and fight the lawsuit
  • Secure housing and relocation expenses
  • Reliable transportation to work, court dates, and support services
  • Food, clothing, and daily essentials
  • Trauma therapy and counseling

Melissa is a survivor, she deserves peace, healing, and a real chance at a fresh start.

Please, if you can, donate to help Melissa take these next vital steps. Every dollar makes a difference. If you're unable to give financially, please consider sharing this fundraiser—and most importantly, lifting her up in prayer. She needs strength, courage, and protection as she walks this incredibly difficult road.

Thank you for your support, your compassion, and your prayers.
