Cherished father, father-in-law, and grandfather Rick Patterson was murdered the evening of January 21st three days after his retirement at age 67.  Rick is survived by his oldest son Neil and his wife Kim and grandchildren Reid and Scarlett; daughter Marie and husband Jeremy and grandchildren Sofia and Caden; and youngest son Ryan Andrew Patterson and partner Zenny Ng.  Rick was a friend to everyone he met.  Growing up, Neil, Marie and Ryan Andrew consistently had strangers either living in their basement or having a meal at the family dinner table whom Rick had brought in to lend a helping hand. Rick continued this generosity throughout his life until his death. As Marie shared, “my dad believed in the goodness in everyone, sometimes to a fault.”  A man who brought happiness to so many was taken too soon under the most horrific circumstances. 

The purpose of this fund is twofold.  Immediately, all funds will be used to cover legal expenses related to the murder and to ensure that Rick’s estate is rightfully given to his family who loved him dearly. Funds will also cover monthly travel costs for Neil and Ryan during the investigation and trial. Currently, the family has not been allowed into Rick’s house to retrieve any of his belongings or have access to any of his accounts. Second, after the legal issues surrounding Rick’s death are resolved, the funds raised through this platform will be reimbursed from Rick’s estate to create the Rick Patterson Domestic Violence Fund. This fund will allow Rick’s generous spirit of being kind to others in need to continue by helping others escape domestic violence.  This tragedy has already taken its toll emotionally on the Patterson family, and we as a community can assist them to make sure it doesn’t also take a financial toll.  Thank you for your support.
