I am raising funds to help move for a new beginning. My cancer appts are now few between so I am looking to move from New Orleans for potential at being able to maintain again.
As most of you know, I lost my only child in 2017. After trying to heal from that devastation, and getting “back to normal”, COVID hit. It was at that time I moved back to New Orleans to start fresh in familiar territory where Jaxson was born. After the height of COVID passing, I was still maintaining Sugafoot Suds and working again.
In 2022, I let Sugafoot Suds go as my job required more time. I did that got back on track that “back to normal” and then in 2023 I found out I was in the fight for my own life, I had late stage colorectal cancer.
These past few years I have been poked, prodded, zapped, and just overall beat down from chemo-radiation therapies. All the while going into financial ruins as my job let me go as they couldn't accommodate work to my treatment schedule, was denied unemployment because it was medical related/at my own will, had to wait almost a year for Disability to begin, and used every credit card and payday loan to the max for bills, food, and medical co-payments. Then in mid-2024 my car that was nearly paid off blew the motor so I had to get into a new loan with an unbelievabl high payment, just to ensure I had a way to all my treatment and doctors as I've had no help! I'm about to lose my apartment so I need to act fast.
Since I was a child, I've had to fend for myself and try to do everything on my own, but the few times I've asked for help, please know they've all been dire situations and it's taking a lot for me to get help or be here writing this to ask.
I've went to every government and organization, and program I'm told about, just to be told there's no help available, there's nothing out there for a single adult with no children who doesn't have an addiction. Every now and again I can get a food box, but even then it's child preferential. The SSDI that I do get isn't enough to even pay my rent, so the remaining rent, medical bills, utilities, car, everything keeps just piling up. I have been back trying to find a job since I was cleared in October 2024, but even those are not calling. New Orleans does not have a lot of opportunities in my career field, and those jobs which are in need, are fields in which I do not have the required experience for (restaurants, hotels, medical).
I'm just at a loss… and I need help getting out of New Orleans. I've had immediate potential interviews when fishing my resume out of state, so I know the potential to get back to normal is out there, I just need help in the meantime for movers, storage, and temporary shelter until I get established.
