About this fundraiser

My grandmother has taken care of so many people and asked for nothing in return as far back in my life as I can remember. While I agree, no-one is perfect, she has been an angel in my life and for so many other folks for decades.

Since the end of February 2023 she has been very ill and in a lot of pain. I will spare the details to respect her privacy but this woman has been either in the emergency room, ICU or a rehab center since the end of February. All she has wanted in that time, is to go home so she can be in comfortable surroundings, with family and be in peace.

Thankfully, due to the diligence of many medical professionals and my incredibly supportive, not to mention, resourceful family, she is finally at home. She's received a hospital-style bed for maximum comfort and support. She has round the clock home-health or hospice care. She is well taken care of.

Hospice care will be coming by 3x a week and, by the grace of God, is covered by her Medicare. What is not covered by Medicare is the 24 hour home health care that is currently costing $39/hr for 24 hours a day.

My grandmother, or nana as we call her, is in late stage kidney failure and has somewhere between days to weeks to live. Despite the high quality round the clock care she is receiving, she is in constant pain.

Naturally, this has taken a steep emotional toll on us all, not least of all, her. While my family has stable finances, we were not prepared for the onslaught of constant cost that would need to be thrown at this kind of care. We were utterly ignorant, as so many folks in the U.S. are about elder and end of life care.

So here's what I'm asking dear fellow human, my family and I need your help and support to pay for a portion of this care. With the help of my mom we have devised that if (and it is NOT) her care were $25 X 24 hours = $600/day. Given that her ultimate timeline is somewhat unknown, we're requesting assistance with 14 days of care at the $600 daily rate which is $8,400.

Please help me support my family in this deeply challenging time. I wouldn't be taking the time to build this fundraiser if the money wasn't truly needed. If you want to learn more about Nana and our family dynamic, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. Thank you so much in advance for any kindness you're able to part with.

This is for you, Nana – Julia Louise George (Ventura). We love you so much!
