Hi, my name is Barbara (Shenell), and I’m reluctantly asking for help during a really difficult time. I’ve exhausted every other option I have, and this is not something I ever imagined I’d need to do. A couple of weeks ago, my car’s engine blew, and I was given an estimate of about $4,400 to repair it. Unfortunately, that’s actually more than what I originally paid for the car. I don’t have a car payment because I’ve already paid it off, and I’d really like to keep it that way—but it’s still my only reliable way to get around. I clean houses for work, which means I travel to multiple homes each day—not just one location. Since my car broke down, I’ve been relying on Uber to get to and from jobs, and it has almost completely drained my savings. Without a working vehicle, I won’t be able to continue working. I also depend on my car to attend important oncology appointments and other medical visits. I’ve already had to miss a couple of appointments because I don’t have reliable transportation right now. To make things even harder, I was recently cut off from my disability benefits. Taking on a car payment just isn’t something I can manage right now with everything going on. I’m doing my best to stay independent and self-sufficient, but this situation has put me in a position where I truly need help.
