Two weeks ago, Jahlium, my bright, funny, and loving 13-year-old nephew was admitted to the hospital after a sudden and severe decline in health. What started as what they thought was a simple illness turned into a terrifying rollercoaster that led to a diagnosis of viral meningitis and encephalitis, a serious condition where the brain becomes inflamed. 

Jahlium is now hospitalized in West Oregon, undergoing intensive treatment with specialists involved from multiple hospitals across the state. While we’re hopeful and seeing moments of progress, he remains in a fragile and unpredictable condition. His medical team is doing everything possible to help him recover, and he’s fighting hard — but this journey is far from over.

His mom, Kiere, has not left his side, and both she and his father are now fully focused on caring for Jahlium — while also trying to support their two younger children at home. Neither parent is able to work right now, as they navigate hospital stays, medical decisions, and emotional upheaval.

We are raising funds to help cover: 

* Lodging, travel, and meals while they stay near the hospital

* Childcare and daily costs for the siblings at home

* Lost income during this critical time

* Any unforeseen medical or emergency expenses along the way

Jahlium is strong and showing moments of progress, but his recovery will take time — and this journey is far from over. The medical team is doing everything they can, and so is his family.
