About this fundraiser

Firefighters dedicate their lives to protecting and saving others, but the dangers they face don't end when the emergency is mitigated. Occupational cancer is on the rise among our firefighters and is now the leading cause of death of those who serve. Heartbreakingly, on April 30th, Glenn Baumuller's name was added to the long list of those who have lost their life to cancer at the age of 59.

Glenn Baumuller spent almost all his life being a firefighter. He lived and breathed fire fighting, as seen through the eyes of those around him. To him, this was not just a job, it was a passion and a calling which he loved. Glenn began his career as a volunteer for Southside Fire Department in Savannah, Georgia. As a volunteer, Glenn is remembered to have his scanner on him at all times and never hesitate to answer a call. Soon, Glenn transitioned to a full-time firefighter with Southside until eventually making Charleston Fire Department his forever home.

Charleston Fire Department became Glenn's  second family creating a true brotherhood with those he served with . Glenn was present through Sofa Super Store Fire and although off duty, responded on his own to help his brothers. Soon after retirement, Glenn received a Stage 4 cancer diagnosis that had already spread through his body by the time it was found.

Glen is remembered by friends and family as being outgoing, selfless, caring, loving, and outspoken. Given a chance he loved playing pranks and telling a joke. Even though he is no longer with us, his voice will carry on through his example and story.

At this time, Glenn's wife and family is seeking assistance with remaining medical bills, funeral costs, and other needed expenses to navigate this time of loss and healing. Please consider a donation in support of someone who gave their life to selflessness in the service of others.
