About this fundraiser

Hello. I am Erica. I'm a 36 year old single mother battling a serious blood clotting disorder. 11 years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter I found out I had something called May Thurner Syndrome. At 8 months pregnant I developed a blood clot from my pelvis to my knee. It was difficult but in 2014 I naturally birthed a beautiful baby girl. 3 months after she was born I underwent surgery to stent my left Illiac vein and to attempt to remove the clot. Due to the clot hardening in my vein it was unable to be fully removed. I continued to work although doctors did not advise it. Although, I wanted to be a nurse continuing on with that career was not feasible as I could not be on my feet for 8-12 hours a day. I found another career thay better suited my condition and continued working until 2022. In December 2021 I contracted COVID and all heck broke loose. I went in for surgery in January because my leg swelled and was so painful. I was turned away by Magees Womens hospital and Cleveland Clinic but West Virginia University hospital agreed to help me. They did a thrombectomy to try and open my vein and collapsed stents. Not even 12 hours later every vein in my left leg had filled with cloths. I had 2 more surgeries over the next 3 days and was sent home as they said there was nothing they could do. I had to use a wheelchair and walker to get around. I then tried to return to work a month later despite the pain. Within 2 weeks I was at UPMC. The doctor there ended up doing 11 more surgeries over the next 2 months. Each time I filled back up with blood clots. I was rendered disabled and unable to work and lost my job. Fast forward to 2025 Easter night I ended up back in the hospital. This time for 36 days and 8 more surgeries. It was horrific. I then had another surgery in October of 2025. There is nothing more doctors can do to help me. I struggle with severe pain and swelling in my left leg everyday. There is a doctor I would like to go to in Texas but this is going to take a lot of money. Travel expenses and co-pays are going to cost me thousands. Being a single mom who lost her career to this I need help. I want my life back. I once was active. Loved to ski, play volleyball and softball, even shop. Now, I am unable to do anything thay requires me to be on my feet for any length of time. I would love to see this specialist in Texas who could possibly get my life back. I hate asking for help, but at this point I have battled 11 years and mt life expectancy isn't as long as I would like. I want to live for my daughter and get to experience things with her. If this doctor could help that would allow me to do those thing. If you can help me in my venture to get to Texas from Pennsylvania I would be eternally grateful. Thank you for reading my story ❤️
