I’m Génesis, have been a hardworking person all my life. However, after this beautiful life I have been living, I found myself stuck by a very rare illness which is MOGAD an autoimmune disease I was also diagnosed with optic neuritis that causes inflammation of the optic nerve inducing the following symptoms including vision loss, color-vision deficiency, pain with eye movement, daily headaches and dizziness.

Since I was first diagnosed in June 2022 it completely changed my life unexpectedly and my life has become a constant struggle. I have been hospitalized multiple times and gone through different treatments for this rare disease. This caused me to be on a medical leave for 4 months since it can be a slow and painful recovery process.

Moving forward, to this year I started working again even though I was still suffering from daily headaches, but the symptoms have been more manageable than before and infusion treatment seem to be helping. A couple of weeks ago in October 2023, I started feeling new and more intense symptoms; this was due to a relapse of the optic neuritis, bringing all the symptoms back stronger than the first time. Specialist recommended a new treatment called Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) in which studies have shown positive results to patients with MOGAD. This treatment is administered every 4 weeks. I am planning to be given the infusions for 3-4 days in a row. This is more often than the infusion treatment that I received prior that was given every 6 months.

Due to this unexpected relapse once again I am currently on a medical leave, most likely for a couple of months. I am facing financial difficulties since I am unable to work. I just received an eviction letter from my landlord since rent is past due for 2 months now. I am also past due on utility bills, the car just got repossessed and it is past due on the insurance. Also, it has been difficult to get any emergency assistance from the state. I am in need of help for this medical situation.
