About this fundraiser

Chris and Buster Murphy’s daughter is needing help to pay for surgery. Her story:

Help Us Through This Unexpected Battle ❤️

I never imagined I would be writing something like this, but here we are.

A year and a half ago, I was hospitalized after experiencing what doctors believed was a stroke. Since then, I’ve continued dealing with symptoms that never fully made sense to me. Recently, while trying to find answers and going through my medical records from that hospitalization, I discovered something I had never been told about.

A CT scan from that hospitalization showed lesions on my thyroid.

If I hadn’t trusted my gut and decided to go through those records while searching for answers, I may have never known there was something there that needed to be checked.

I followed up, had the thyroid findings investigated, and just this past week, I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer.

Everything has happened so incredibly fast. What we thought would be appointments and answers has suddenly turned into surgery.

My surgery is scheduled for this Friday.

I will be having a total thyroidectomy, along with removal of any lymph nodes or other tissue that may have been affected by the cancer. We won’t know the full extent of what needs to be removed until they are able to see everything during surgery.

There is also a possibility that some of my vocal cord function may be affected, which could change my voice. That is difficult to even think about, but I keep reminding myself that my voice will still be heard.

Along with the emotional weight of all of this, we are facing a very real financial burden. I will need to be off work for a minimum of two weeks, and I do not have PTO, short-term disability, or long-term disability benefits to help cover that time.

We simply weren’t prepared for this.

This wasn’t something we had months to plan for or save for. Our entire world changed in the span of one week. One minute we were trying to figure out what was causing my symptoms, and the next we were hearing the words “you have cancer” and scheduling surgery.

As you can imagine, it has been an absolute whirlwind.

I am not someone who likes asking for help. In fact, this is incredibly difficult for me. But right now, I’m choosing to put my pride aside and ask for help because my family needs it.

Literally anything helps. A donation, a share, a prayer, or simply keeping us in your thoughts means more than I can ever explain.

I’ve already survived things I never thought I would have to face. Now I’m facing cancer, and I’m going to fight this too.

I have four beautiful children who need their mom, a husband who continues to stand beside me, and a whole lot of faith carrying me through.

I don’t know exactly what the road ahead looks like, but I know I’m going to keep walking it.

Thank you for loving us, praying for us, sharing our story, and helping our family through this unexpected chapter. Every single act of kindness means more than you know. ❤️
