Latest update as of Sep 06, 2024

  • Big news to share!

It's been almost a year since I did an update. My apologies.

Just a quick run down of timeline:
October 2023 my sister had stomach and bladder surgery
January 2024 we found out that the tumor in her stomach grew back

My siblings and my sisters friends spent most of the winter and spring fundraising and securing funds to get my sister treatment at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

March 2024 we found out she would start a 12 week treatment for her brain tumor and stomach cancer. She would start in June.

June 2024, Ahoui, my sis in law Lisa and my nephew moved to Rochester to an Airbnb to start treatment. She started immunotherapy and proton therapy. Her liver is not doing well so she's also doing dialysis

August 2024, her stomach cancer is growing aggressively so doctor is trying one last type of immunotherapy and they also extended her stay for treatment through December 2024.

Last week of August, Lisa and my nephew moved back to Milwaukee so he can start school.

Today my sister shared with us that her Brian tumor is gone!! They are continuing radiation to make sure it doesn't grow back. Her stomach cancer is hyper stage 3 still.

But praise God. Her battle with the brain tumor for almost 4 years is done. Although she is still battling stomach cancer, I want to highlight the strength she continues to display.

She is away from her family. She is so strong. She finds so many different ways to stay positive. She have missed her oldest daughter pass her driver's test. She missed her 2nd oldest birthday. She's never missed any of her kids birthday. I couldn't imagine how hard it was for her.

We know she still has a long way to go or recovery. We are so thankful for your support, prayers, and also just checking in with her and about her.

I am asking for continued financial support as these next few months were not part of the budget and we are helping to pay her Airbnb out of pocket. I'm thankful for all my siblings stepping up to support her.

Thank you for your continued prayers. She may be missing these important milestones, but the trade off is that we are hopeful she will get to spend more time with us and get to enjoy many more milestones.

About this fundraiser

Meet A-Houi Ly. Mother of 4 beautiful children and most beloved Wife, Sister, Aunt, and Daughter. She loves spending time with her family, cooking, and playing volleyball.

October of 2020, she had massive headaches where medication and therapies couldn't make better. Doctors finally did a full body scan and revealed that she suffered from Glioblastoma, a fast growing-aggressive brain tumor. She immediately started chemotherapy and radiation therapy. She had to leave her corporate job because she couldn't keep up with the demands of doing therapy and working. She started her own catering business so that she can work part-time so she could have more control of her schedule and spend time resting.

Her brain tumor went down, but due to financial constraints and cost of therapy, she stopped therapy briefly and the tumor came back aggressively where she had recently been diagnosed with gastric and bladder cancer.

She continues to have intensive chemo and radiation therapy while she waits for Proton Therapy to open up to her for treatment. Proton therapy alone will cost $120,000. She will also be needing surgery for her bladder and her stomach, currently she is scheduled for October 18th, 2023. She will not be able to cater after she have her surgeries and during proton therapy. These funds will go toward Proton Therapy and her ongoing chemo and radiation therapies.

Over two decades she had suffered with blood clots in her brain and a near-death aneurysm. Although the recent years she has been battling cancer, she has shown great strength and mental fortitude. She is so strong and spirited and those who don't know her intimately would not have known the battles that she fights every day. Although she is tired and hurting, she still loves with every ounce of energy she has.

We are so incredibly thankful and grateful for your support, prayers, and help. Please share this with anyone that you know could help. A-Houi is an inspiration to us all. She is my dear sister and we pray for many more years together.

Thank you,

Ka Zoua Berry
