I am writing on behalf of someone I love very much. He was originally charged with taking a vehicle and was sentenced to 10 years. He was given the opportunity to participate in First Offender probation, but after meeting with his probation officer, he became overwhelmed and made the poor decision not to return. He remained away for approximately four years before being arrested on May 16 and has been incarcerated ever since.
He is currently eligible for a bond of nearly $6,000, but I simply cannot afford it. He was the primary provider for our family and helped support not only me and our household but also his children. He has a 4-year-old son and a 14-year-old daughter who love him and need him in their lives.
I understand that mistakes were made, and I am not trying to excuse them. However, I know the man behind those mistakes. He is a caring father, a hardworking provider, and someone who has always tried to help those around him. Like many people, he has made poor choices, but those choices do not define his entire character.
Since his incarceration, our family has been struggling tremendously. I am now facing the loss of our apartment because I cannot keep up with the expenses on my own. At this time, I am also unable to work consistently because my son has severe ADHD and ODD, which results in frequent calls from school requiring me to pick him up, often more than once a week.
I am deeply concerned for his well-being while he is incarcerated. He has already been assaulted multiple times while in jail and is having a very difficult time. We miss him, and our family is suffering without him.
I respectfully ask that you please consider our circumstances and, if there is any way possible, show mercy and compassion in his situation. Any consideration or assistance you can provide would mean more to our family than words can express.
