On February 7th, our lives changed forever when Mike became a right-leg Below Knee Amputee (BKA). Since then, we have been working tirelessly to adapt to this new reality. We’ve even moved into a ground-floor apartment to help make things easier, but we have hit a major roadblock: our unit is not wheelchair accessible.
The Challenge
Because we are renters, we are unable to install a permanent, professional ramp. This has created a serious safety issue. Currently, Mike is unable to leave the apartment when I am not home. Whether it is the front or back door, he is effectively stuck inside for long periods.
This isn't just about convenience—it is about Mike’s safety, his ability to attend appointments, and his fundamental freedom to leave his own home.
The Goal
We are raising $10,000 to purchase a heavy-duty, portable wheelchair ramp. A high-quality portable system will allow Mike to safely navigate our doorways while remaining compliant with our apartment’s rules, as it can be moved as needed.
As I am currently the only one working, any funds raised beyond the cost of the ramp will go directly toward our monthly bills and medical-related expenses to help keep us afloat during this transition.
How You Can Help
Your support will do more than just buy a piece of equipment; it will give Mike his independence back and ensure he is never trapped in an emergency.
Thank you for helping Mike break through this barrier.
