  • Facing Eviction

Despite my continued efforts to find employment and sufficient income to stabilize, I continue to be rejected leaving me hopeless and helpless. On Thu, 5/28, I received yet another rejection letter for a part time job. Devastated beyond words. If this weren’t enough, Hope and I are now facing eviction as our limited funds continue to exhaust. It’s embarrassing, emotional, shameful, and the like to continue to beg and plead for assistance with basic needs. At 58, it is completely devastating to no longer be independent. I don’t seek sympathy as many tend to believe. Rather, I need a hand up. As such, if anyone can continue to provide assistance, Hope and I will forever be grateful. If not, (we) truly understand as everyone is suffering in some way. Your continued thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated. Blessings.

About this fundraiser

Hello, my name is Deborah (Debbie) Williams. Sufficed to say, 2025 was an extremely tough and challenging year. I am homeless, unemployed, and disabled. I find myself in the current situation due to no fault of my own. I am amongst the thousands of Federal Probationary Employees (illegally) terminated from my newly secured job with the Federal Government.

January 27, 2026 would have marked my one year of service as a Federal Employee and employment at United States Patent and Trade Office (USPTO). I was hired as a Human Resources Assistant (HRA) under Schedule A authority after working more than (25) years as a Federal Contractor at a number of Federal Agencies. Alas, my long awaited prayers had been answered. Bittersweet. I was never afforded the opportunity to learn, grow, expand my skills, talent, strengths, etc. as my job was essentially stolen from me leaving me financially crippled. It was and still is my desire to ultimately retire as a Federal Employee; but sadly it may never come to fruition. Since being fired twice, I continue to struggle to gain suitable employment with no success.

Although there are many ongoing Court challenges regarding the merits of our (Probationary) terminations, the wheels of justice, continue to move slowly. Recently, class certification was granted at the Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) for Commerce which my Agency falls under. The (4) Law Firms litigating the case, continue to work tirelessly to secure reinstatement and any other damages (we) are entitled including back pay. I continue to remain in fervent prayer that (we) will get justice. In the interim, it is of little comfort as I DESPERATELY need employment now. My experience as a Contractor, HRA/HRS, and Legal (Paralegal/Legal Asst) have led nowhere. It is frustrating and totally disheartening.

It’s been nearly (2) years since I was last employed. I have no doubt that I am and continue to encounter discrimination: age, disability, and minority. Also, so many people are struggling from job loss under this rogue Administration. The job market is extremely tight as so many talented people are vying for employment. Every day is a daily struggle to survive. I have shared my story on WUSA9 with Larry Miller as part of his continuing reporting of The Federal Workforce Fallout series. Words will never fully express the sheer devastation I continue to feel. My overall wellbeing has been severely impacted.

Due to the job loss, my already dire circumstances continued to rapidly deteriorate. As such, and setting pride aside, I am bravely stepping out on faith that someone can and will be able to lend a hand to help me and my fur baby, Hope, with some of our basic needs.

I yearn to have the opportunity to afford a safe, forever home for myself and Hope. I want a place to sleep without uncertainty and having to restart. Essentials, clothing, basic necessities, etc. are urgently needed. Presently, I have depleted all my funds causing me to reach out for help until I receive my next disability payment. Donations will support housing related costs, basic living expenses, food, and to help rebuild a foundation to cease living in survival mode.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for taking the time to read my story. I believe better days are indeed ahead, and every bit of kindness brings me closer to stability and peace of mind. Blessings.
