Hello, I’m in urgent need of help. I’m a 15-year-old Korean girl living in New Jersey. I came to the U.S. in November 2022 because of my father’s work. My father is a small business owner, but the business he was working on recently failed, and he has accumulated a lot of debt. We’re currently living in a rented apartment with about 9 months left on the lease. My father is going back to Korea next week to sell the house we lived in to pay off the debt. We haven’t been able to pay the apartment maintenance fee since last month, and we’ve been told that we’ll be evicted if we don’t pay by the end of this month. I know this is shameless, but I’m desperate and have no one else to turn to. I’m not fluent in English, and there are no places around where a 15-year-old like me can find a part-time job, so I haven’t been able to secure one. I borrowed about $2000 from my friends in Korea to cover this month’s living expenses, but they’ve threatened to report me to the police if I don’t pay them back by the end of the month. I have no immediate way to come up with the money.
