Latest update as of Jul 21, 2025

  • Made it to Omaha

We finally have Shirley in Omaha. She's been admitted for a almost 2 weeks now and acquired another bout of sepsis. But the level of care and concern here is ten fold beyond anything she ever received in columbia. She's got an appointment for testing etc with the transplant team but the down side is not til the end of October. While that's not a long time for most people, it's quite a while for someone so susceptible to blood infections on TPN. Truly thank those who've donated and prayed she's on the best trajectory she can be on but it's still a long road ahead. Doing all we can to keep her strong and in good spirits. She's still fighting with all she's got but has her wore out and down days. Will continue to update as milestones are met.

About this fundraiser

My wife Shirley went thru a terrible auto accident over a year ago.  After 4 and a half months,  9 abdominal surgeries,  1 facial reconstruction surgery,  and told to go home on hospice and die,  that nothing could be done, she has lost her stomach, large intestine, colon, abs most of her small intestine. She's been living off of TPN for food supplied directly thru IV. The TPN while providing nutrition to keep her alive is slowly killing her with continual bouts of sepsis. She's currently hospitalized on bout number 7 and almost didn't recover this time.

A door for intestinal transplant has just came available a few weeks ago but we have lost everything over the last year.  Our home,  our car, her job,  andI've barely been able to work as well.

Her transplant team waiting on Omaha just needs her to get there.  We'll need to relocate indefinitely, which is why I'm reaching out to anyone who might feel compelled to help her get the treatment she desperately needs and deserves.

Between us we have 9 kids. Left at home are our 20 and our adopted 6 year old with autism. We are currently living out of a room at her sister and brothers house.  Andour belongings in storage for the last year thanks to our oldest daughter.

Shirley,  like myself has airways worked,  at times multiple jobs at the same time.  We have always been self sufficient and asking for help isn't easy or natural for us.

We how and pray that all who can help and feel compelled to help can.  And those who can't ask for prayers.

Thank you for taking time to consider any help you possibly could give.

Sincerely Charles and Shirley Looney
