About this fundraiser

You are receiving this campaign as a member of Oliver Pookrum's friend network. He has asked to let everyone know he apologizes for not being able to respond to all of the beautiful texts, phone calls and emails that have been coming in for him due to his current health challenges. Of course, he is thinking first about others as we, his friends and family, strategize the best way to support him during this time.

In November of 2023 Oliver received a diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma, or liver cancer, and has been working with his cancer team and family to manage his treatment and care since then. His treatment to this point has included several hospital stays, chemotherapy and a variety of other medicines, as well as a big adjustment of lifestyle. Upcoming treatment plans include additional procedures, monitoring the effectiveness of his current medicines and continued bed rest. At this point Oliver's fatigue makes regular activity, including simple things like checking texts and email, beyond his current capacity. He has agreed to let his friends start this campaign as a way for us to support his current needs and give him space and time to rest and get his strength back as he continues his treatment. All of the donations collected through this fund go directly to Oliver's bank account.

Oliver estimates that the next six months will help his medical team stabilize his condition and provide insight into future progress, and he has identified that time period as one which would be helpful for him to have some financial support. During those six months he estimates that a fund of $20,000 will help provide for:

*$3,000 a month (x 6 months) to help cover prescriptions, doctor bills, medical equipment (he is in need of a wheelchair and adaptations to shower fixtures, and has already purchased other equipment including a motorized hi-low home hospital bed) as well as expenses related to him and the kids' monthly food and bills.

*$2,000 to cover bills and medicines already paid for, in addition to transaction fees for these donations , which are 4% (4% of each contribution of $18,000 - $720)

Please contribute if you can, and if you can't please forward this campaign to amplify support for Oliver during this time. He would never ask for help like this and we are happy he has agreed to let us support him in this way. Oliver can be contracted through his sister Hattie, who he is staying with and who is helping manage his care. There is a meal train established for those who are interested in signing up to provide food on specific days and times for him and the family for the next couple of months, so please take a look at that link below if that is something you would be interested in supporting. Any questions about this campaign will go to Carrie Morris, the campaign's organizer, who will forward them to the family. Thank you so much.
