  • Plan of Attack!

My first chemo is scheduled for September 3rd. The original treatment plan was to have treatment every other month but my Oncologist has decided that I need to have one every 4 weeks to start. He feels this is best to keep the AIHA in check and to tackle the lymphoma. I am okay with this plan as it means that i will be finished sooner than later. I had my port placed and the procedure went well. Still sore but it is healing nicely and I am feeling more like myself. I still have a ways to go and but I am definitely in a better place. Thanks everyone for your love and support.

About this fundraiser

Help Elena beat cancer!

Third times a charm! I am fighting cancer again and this time I am asking for help to cover the cost of treatment and other related expenses.

In 2017 I was diagnosed with Agressive Diffuse Large B Cell Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. I did 6 rounds of R-CHOP chemotherapy and went into remission. After 7 months the cancer returned but had transformed into Non Hodgkins Follicular Lymphoma. NHKFL is an indolent cancer which means its not curable but can be managed. In addition to my initial treatment I completed 15 rounds of radiation and 8 rounds of maintenance chemo. I acheived remission again and remained NED (no evidence of disease) until April 2022. I had my tonsils and several lymphnodes removed but PET scans and labs indicated that the cancer was still present. I was put on watch and wait and had PET Scans every 3 months to check for progression. My cancer remained stable for over a year.  Early this year I began to experience a low red blood count. Over the course of a few months I had multiple PET Scans, CT scans, weekly lab work, and a Bone Marrow Biopsy. My RBC continued to drop and I ended up in the hospital twice for blood transfusions. Last month I was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia after my Hemoglobin dropped below 4. AIHA is a rare autoimmune disorder that sometimes affects people with lymphoma. AIHA occurs when the body's immune system mistakenly attacks red blood cells, causing them to die prematurely. This leaves the body without enough red blood cells, which carry oxygen around the body. I was admitted to the City of Hope where I received 6 units of blood, an Immunoglobulin infusion and began chemotherapy to treat the AIHA. I completed 4 rounds and my HGB has stabelized. Next week I return to City of Hope to have another PET scan and have a port placed. I will receive 12 additional chemotherapy treatments. This time to treat the cancer with the hope that it will put both the AIHA and lymphoma into remission.

Although insurance covers a good portion of my treatment our out of pocket responsibility is significant. $1600.00 per infusion. This doesnt include the 10 to 20% share of cost for scans, labs, appointments, hospital stays, procedures, as well as co-pays, travel expenses and accommodations. I've been making medical bill payments for the last 7 years and still no end in sight! Im reaching out to you for help to make ends meet. Your donations will go towards covering current and future medical bills.

Your support and generosity is greatly appreciated. Please feel free to share my campaign. 💚💚💚
