I am reaching out today in a moment of extreme vulnerability. My husband and I are seniors who have recently survived a series of devastating setbacks, and we are now facing the terrifying reality of losing our home.
After being forced to move abruptly from our home of eight years, we used every penny of our savings to secure a new apartment. Just one month after moving in, I was unexpectedly laid off. I immediately began job hunting, but then the unthinkable happened: I was rushed to the ICU with Bilateral Pulmonary Emboli (blood clots in both lungs) and DVT.
I spent five days in the ICU and have just been released. I am currently very weak and focused on recovery, but we have hit a wall. Our rent is due April 1st. We have spoken with management, but they are unable to offer an extension past April 8th. Without help, we will be evicted while I am still physically unable to work or move.
I am waiting for unemployment and disability benefits to begin, but those systems take time that we simply do don’t have. Local assistance programs in our area are unfortunately tapped out for the year.
How you can help:
We are seeking $2000 to cover our rent and essential utilities for the next month while I recover and our benefits process. This will give us the stability we need to stay off the streets and allow me to get back on my feet.
Any amount—even $5 or $10—makes a massive difference. If you cannot donate, please consider sharing our story. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
Please donate to comment.
