Help for My Mother, Wilma Acosta
It's not easy for me to ask for help, but today I'm setting my pride aside because the person who needs it most is my mother.
My mom, Wilma Acosta, is 82 years old. For as long as I can remember, she has been the kind of person who would stop everything she was doing to help someone else. Throughout her life, she has cared for people, comforted people, encouraged people, and given whatever she could to make someone else's burden a little lighter. She never did it for recognition or praise. She did it because that's simply who she is.
Now, after a lifetime of hard work and helping others, my mother is retired and depends solely on Social Security to survive. Every month is a struggle to make ends meet, and there is never much left over for unexpected expenses.
Recently, her 2012 Dodge Caravan broke down and urgently needs a new alternator. The repair will cost approximately $300, and right now that amount feels impossible to come up with.
For many people, a car repair is an inconvenience. For my mother, it's much more than that.
She lives in a rural area, far from town, and this vehicle is her only means of transportation. It's how she gets groceries, attends appointments, picks up medications, and most importantly, how she would get to the hospital if a medical emergency were to happen. At 82 years old, that reality is terrifying.
As her child, it breaks my heart to watch her sit and worry. I see the stress in her eyes. I hear the fear in her voice. This is a woman who spent her entire life taking care of everyone around her, and now she feels helpless because she can't solve this problem on her own.
No mother who has given so much of herself to others should have to spend her days wondering what will happen if she gets sick and can't get where she needs to go.
I'm asking from the bottom of my heart for any help you can give. Whether it's a donation, a share, or simply a prayer, every act of kindness brings hope to someone who has given so much hope to others throughout her life.
Thank you for taking the time to read her story. Thank you for seeing the beautiful person that my mother is. And thank you for helping us make sure that she has the safe and reliable transportation she desperately needs.
After a lifetime of helping others, my mother is now the one who needs a helping hand. ❤️
