Helping My Mom and Dad Through Dad’s Cancer Treatment
God has truly blessed me with having two dads in my life. Twenty-five years ago, my mom married my stepdad, Bob Biswell, whom I also proudly call Dad. From the very beginning, he has been a loving, caring, and supportive father, and I am so grateful God brought him into our family.
My mom and dad have both worked hard their entire lives and have always done their best to take care of their family and help others whenever they could. Unfortunately, they are now facing a very difficult and frightening chapter in their lives.
Recently, my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Because of his health, he had to stop working. My mom also had to leave her job so she could be there to care for him while also dealing with her own worsening health. They are now living on Social Security, which makes an already difficult situation even more overwhelming.
My dad is preparing to undergo six weeks of cancer treatments, requiring them to travel more than an hour each way. His doctors have warned that the treatments will likely leave him extremely weak and have advised against driving home every day after treatment. This means they may need to stay in a hotel several nights a week, in addition to the tremendous cost of gas and traveling back and forth.
The financial burden is something they are deeply worried about.
What makes this especially difficult for me and our family is knowing that my mom and dad have always been the ones helping everyone else.
When someone is sick, going through a difficult time, or has lost a loved one, they are there. They cook meals for families who are hurting. They give their time, their food, and even their own money to help others—even when doing so meant they had less for themselves.
They have never asked, “What will this cost us?” They have simply asked, “How can we help?”
Now, they are the ones who need a little help.
My dad has an incredibly strong faith in God. He truly loves God and his family with all of his heart, and he has always believed that God will see us through difficult times. I believe that too. I also believe that sometimes God works through people, placing it on our hearts to help someone who needs us.
I know asking for help is not easy for my parents. They are used to being the ones giving, not receiving. But right now, they need support as my dad fights cancer and my mom does everything she can to care for him.
Any donation, no matter how big or small, would mean more to our family than words can express. Your contribution will help with hotel stays, gas, meals, medical-related travel, and everyday expenses while my dad is unable to work and my mom is caring for him.
If you are unable to donate, we completely understand. Prayers, sharing this fundraiser, and simply keeping my mom and dad in your thoughts mean so much to us.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read our story, pray for our family, share our fundraiser, or give whatever you are able to give.
Please pray for my dad as he begins his cancer treatments, for strength and healing, and for my mom as she stands beside him through this difficult journey.
We have faith that God will carry them through this, and we are so grateful for every person who helps carry them along the way. ❤️🙏
With love and gratitude,
The Family
