About this fundraiser

Hello, My name is Kellie and I have made this fundraiser so that people from different areas can donate to what I have called “Axel's Service Dog." Now let me explain to you who Axel is and why I am raising money for a Service Dog. Axel is my son, he is 4 years old and he was born with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia(ONH) and  Septo-Optic Dysplasia(SOD) of the brain. What are those things? Optic Nerve Hypoplasia is where the optic nerve in your eye is underdeveloped ranging from mild cases to total blindness, Axel was born with total vision loss. With ONH that comes with more than just blindness, such as involuntary eye movements which is called Nystagmus. So with Septo- Optic Dysplasia that effects the Growth Hormone in your body which Axel does suffer from. Along with that SOD effects Thyroid/Cortisol, and it can cause Diabetes Insipidus(excessive thirst and urination), Hypothalamic Dysfunction(excessive eating), Developmental Delays which can cause potential issue with motor skills and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Axel does have most of the issues I have listed above but he does have a relatively normal life, he goes to daycare as I do work full time, I take him to the park, swimming, fishing, any activity that a child can do I make sure he does it or at least attempts. Now with the fully trained service dog it would benefit him in so many different ways, the service dog is another set of eyes other than my own that is specifically designed for him. Dogs of any kind and breed have a deeper sense than humans but a service dog is trained to use it's senses to detected issues that Axel has or potentially could have, Axel walks and tries to explore and the service dog would be there to prevent him from getting injured, if he starts to have a meltdown for an unknown reason the dog is trained in calming techniques to comfort him, the service dog is trained to open and close doors, use buttons to communicate with me and alert me or an adult if it senses something that me or another adult cannot see. The list of benefits goes on and on, this fundraiser means more to me than anyone could ever understand because I want to give my son all of the things that can help him in this life, it is not easy for a perfectly functioning adult much less a child that is missing his sight among other things. Donating anything would be more of a help than anything and the gratitude and relief I, as a parent would feel would absolutely consume my whole heart. If you have made it this far in reading my summary, I thank you.
