On Christmas day of 2023, I was enjoying the holiday with my daughter and my kidneys shut down. My husband rushed me to hospital, to find out I had End stage CKD. After a week in hospital, everything had changed. I was told I would now need dialysis to clean my blood and keep me alive. I have 4 wonderful children, I want to watch them grow up, get married, I want to have grandchildren. I want to live.
In the months following this, my husband has become my primary caregiver. Being forced to care for me 24/7. Everything was going so well, until our vehicle broke down. My husband tried everything he could to fix it, to no avail.
My insurance pays for medical transportation. That being said, I am constantly worried about being late or even being totally forgotten.
I was accepted to the transplant program at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee WI. My 18yr old daughter, bless her heart, has volunteered to donate her kidney to save my life. However, there are very strict guidelines to stay in compliance with the transplant program.
- NO missed appointments.
- NO missed dialysis session
- NO skipped doses of medicine
- Must be within a one hour drive of hospital at all times. These are just a few off the long list of things I have to do. So far, the past month of using the medical transportation, I have been forgotten in Milwaukee, waited 5 and a half hours for a ride home after surgery and missed a pre-op appointment dealing with my failing eye sight. Donating would change everything for me, I would no longer have to live in fear of being dropped from the program and ultimately face an early death. 100 percent of this money is going towards the procurement of reliable transportation to secure my spot for transplant. Please help me live longer so I can see a future for myself. Thank you so much for taking interest in my story God Bless, Sincerely. Christine Brill
