About this fundraiser

I have a great friend who is one of the strongest single moms I know. This mom of three hasn’t ever received state assistance, I have watched her work 7 days a week. Some weeks over 65 hours for a salaried position. She came home cooked and took amazing care of her kids. For fun she would deliver food for Uber with the kids To make ends meet. I would tell her to slow down but she would smile and say I have to my kids need to eat. She did it. With rents as high as they are I understood.  She had an apartment she rented at $2200.00 a mo. It was terrible.
Let me say this she has the happiest most respectful kids you can meet. So I watched helped when I could and let her live her live. I kept telling her to find a nice guy so you will have some help, she said no after her husband died she said she didn’t want to have different men in and out of her house while the kids were little. She always said she didn’t want her daughter to think that was normal.
Well the job she was working for the last 6 years was sold and she was let go. The owner didn’t want to pay her salary. she begged him to give her a chance but nothing he brought his family in. This girl said it’s fine I’ll find another job. Never went to crazy nervous. everyday she applied and applied . The calls weren’t coming. I rewrote her resume thinking that may help but nothing still. About two weeks later her car broke down, so she couldn’t even deliver food anymore. I told her to at least apply for food stamps but she said no I’ll get a job. The $540.00 a week from unemployment wasn’t enough to keep her house up and running and she was evicted. She won’t get her deposit back because she owed rent. On August 28, she has to be out. I helped her pay one month of rent so it would at least give her time. She applied for uniteCT which would have helped her pay the back rent but the landlord would not except it. she said she wanted her out. At this point she needs help, I’m not using her name because she would be mortified. She wouldn’t ever ask for help like this. I explained sometimes you just need help, it’s not something you do all the time so at least try. She said no so I am trying for her. While I understand there are a lot of people who are misleading. I can promise you this if there was a person who has been through hell and smiled all the way through knowing things would get better it’s her. She needs to get an apartment and first of all get the car fixed. If you can help at all I would be so grateful. I know she will be so grateful. She is saying she will have to go to a shelter but is the only time I saw her cry. She says her kids are always going to remember when they had to go to a shelter. It’s just not a memory you want your kids to have. As a mom I understand even when we have next to nothing we make sure our kids don’t know. They have food and they play and they don’t know why they ate pasta three days in a row they just think they are lucky! Who doesn’t love pasta…. But when you can’t do that and have a yard for them to play, a room to put them to sleep in. They understand they are poor, they understand they aren’t the same as the other kids. They become embarrassed and withdrawn. No mom wants that. I am hopeful that if some people can help with a small amount we can help her to get back on her feet and move forward.
Any donations will go to fixing her car and getting an apartment rent and security. Any additional money I will but in an account for her to have a cushion so she isn’t living day by day. That unfortunately is how a lot of people are living nowadays with the high rents and food costs.

Thank you for taking time to read this and I appreciate any kind of help you can give.

Have a blessed day,

Dawn
