In 2017, a severe staff infection led to a harrowing two-week hospital stay where her healthy kidneys, tragically, failed. Though she bravely fought through eight weeks of dialysis, her determination paid off when her kidneys began to work again on their own. However, this battle left her with one kidney significantly reduced in size, leading to a diagnosis of stage 2 kidney disease.

Already managing Type 2 Diabetes and Hashimoto's Thyroid disease, Myra's complex health picture makes it incredibly difficult to secure and maintain a full-time job with benefits. Living in Alabama, and unable to qualify for Medicaid, accessing affordable healthcare through other avenues has become an overwhelming burden.

Myra is now facing a critical juncture. She urgently needs new glasses and surgery for glaucoma to protect her vision. Her insulin pump, vital for managing her diabetes, needs replacing, as does her CPAP machine, essential for her breathing. Beyond these immediate needs, she relies on consistent medication and transportation to specialist appointments, many of which are out of town.
