Dear friends, kind strangers, and anyone who believes in second chances,
I never thought I'd be writing this. I never thought life could change so drastically overnight. But here we are.
Just a few weeks ago, my dear brother James—one of the kindest, most hardworking people I’ve ever known—lost everything in a devastating house fire. The home he grew up in, the place where he made his happiest memories, was reduced to ashes in a matter of minutes. But the true heartbreak? James barely made it out alive.
He suffered severe burns trying to save his rescue dog, Max. And though Max miraculously survived, James was left with nothing but the clothes on his back and a long, painful road to recovery. His hands, once steady and strong—hands that spent years helping others—are now covered in bandages, making it nearly impossible for him to work.
James has always been the guy to show up when others needed help. When our mom got sick, he worked two jobs to pay for her care. When his best friend lost his job, James let him crash on his couch for six months. He never asked for anything in return. And now, when he needs it the most, I want to show him the same love he’s given to the world.
We’re raising $50,000 to help James get back on his feet—to cover his medical expenses, temporary housing, and the rebuilding of his life. Insurance will only go so far, and with his recovery ahead, every single dollar makes a difference.
I know times are tough for everyone, but if you can spare even $5, $10, or just a share, you’re not just donating—you’re giving James hope. You’re reminding him that good people still exist and that even in the darkest times, kindness wins.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you. For reading, for sharing, for believing that James deserves a fresh start.
With love and gratitude, Emily Carter
