Courtney is a 33 year old female with premature brain cells that have caused severe chronic seizures since she was 2 years old. She suffers anywhere from 8 to 10 seizures a day normally and sometimes more than that. Her seizures effect her everyday day life severely, she has never been able to work a job or even drive a car. She was put in an induced coma last year and life-flighted from Evansville to Indianapolis because she was seizing nonstop and they had no other way of getting her to stop. Indianapolis then referred her to Cleveland Neurological Center.

She is currently undergoing treatment at the Cleveland Neurological Clinic thanks to grants and scholarships due to her case being so severe. They are at the point where they want to install a RNS machine inside of her skull. Before that they will have to do an SEEG to try to pinpoint exactly where the seizures are coming from within the brain. One problem she faces though is Cleveland Neuro is helping with costs thanks to the grants but they can not help with any other costs associated with travel, food, lodging, and medical supplies. She goes to meet with the surgeon July 2nd, 2025 and will then schedule the SEEG and after that the RNS surgery. After the surgery she will have to travel from Evansville, IN to Cleveland, OH every 3 months for the first 2-3 years and then atleast every 6 months after that.

The brain surgery should help to reduce the amount of seizures that she has but the surgeon has already explained to us that she will never be completely seizure free and will never be able to stop taking her seizure medicine. They goal of the surgery is to try and reduce the amount of seizures she has so that she is not damaging her brain as much as every seizure she has is doing permanent damage to her brain. I am Courtney's fiancé as well as her full time home caretaker and help her around the house, with her medicines, and take her to all of her doctors appointments.
