I recently welcomed my newborn daughter into the world, and as a mother, my main focus is keeping her safe, healthy, and cared for. Right now, we’re facing a really difficult situation.

I am a survivor of domestic violence, and in the process of leaving that situation, I lost everything. I’m currently staying with my grandmother, and while I’m so grateful for her support, it has become hard for her to take on the responsibility of getting us everywhere we need to go. She has her own life, and I don’t want to put too much on her.

Without a car, getting around has been extremely challenging. Public transportation has not been safe for me or my newborn. There are often dangerous situations, including drug use, and it’s not an environment I feel comfortable bringing my baby into. On top of that, I struggle with asthma, and walking long distances—especially in the heat—has been very hard on my health.

Having a reliable car would change everything for us. It would allow me to safely get my daughter to her appointments on time, run essential errands, and begin rebuilding a stable, independent life for both of us.
