This is our Friend, Colleague, Devoted Husband to Gail,, Father to Chris and Beth, Loving Grandfather to Marc, Isabel and Amalia and Loyal Companions of Cleo and Tucker.
Dave’s Medical Journey, like many of us, started years ago with a diagnosis of Chron’s Disease, an intestinal disorder. It advanced over ten years ago to where Dave needed an ileostomy to live a quality life, he survived with the ups and downs that intestinal disorder brought with it, many obstruction repairs over the years.
Dave and Gail were happily living in a park model home in an Active 55+ Resort, Dave supplementing their Senior income with a Greens-keeping job close by.
Life was ok, sometimes even good, finally, they have peace of mind for their future retirement years.
And then the wind got knocked out of their sails
A seemingly run of the mill intestinal obstruction at a local Arizona Hospital turned into a COMPLETE REMOVAL OF HIS SMALL INTESTINES. “What is the plan now” they wisely asked. The doctors there, other than TPN nutrition to keep him alive HAD NO ANSWERS. Flash forward over 6 months later and he is going down hill, they can’t regulate him and eliminate bile properly to allow him the strength to get back to life and living.
It became increasingly clear a new plan had to take shape. What about a TRANSPLANT?
It’s complicated, so much has transpired. He has endured more than most in a lifetime. The cover photo is Dave being transported via commercial air (no insurance for emergency flight), at great peril to him, unescorted and without medical aid. A testament to his fortitude and WILLPOWER TO LIVE, he made it (not without set backs), to The Cleveland Clinic where they have generously accepted him for transplant. THIS WILL BE LIFE SAVING and afford some of the quality time we all deserve and strive for in our later years.
BUT, NONE of this can happen without further support. Dave’s wife, Gail, had to find a (garage) apartment to be with and help care for Dave, as he waits for a donor. In the meantime, One House payment was hard enough, now there are two. He obviously isn’t bringing his income in and then HE HAD A HEART ATTACK. I’m serious! Yet another set back that he is working through, following BYPASS HEART SURGERY. The NG tube is helping him heal. He is NOT GIVING UP. Neither are the transplant doctors, they visited him yesterday to let him know they are still on his #TeamHarvey, don’t give up! Let US not give up on him, we can ALL HELP. We all help those we don’t know when they’re famous. Dave has SERVED OUR COUNTRY at time of war (a sailor), always did what’s right by family and friends, the first to volunteer when needed, we ask for your assistance at this time to get these fine people through this! Thanks in Advance. Will post follow up information as it is known. Show the LOVE, you will be a better person for it, that I can promise.
