  • Steffon has been discharged!

After days of uncertainty and fear, Steffon has finally been released from the hospital in excellent condition! He’s back online, so to speak, making jokes and enjoying time with his wife before his all-important immigration interview.

While his physical recovery is going to be arduous, Steffon and Phoebe are extremely grateful that he’s walking (yes, walking) out of the hospital with a bright future ahead. We can’t thank you all enough for your donations, prayers, and heartfelt advice. We don’t know what would’ve happened without support from our community — all the way from the East Coast of the U.S. to Steffon’s home on Eleuthera and beyond — and we’re so grateful that we never have to find out.

Phoebe is working tirelessly to make the financial burden as small as possible, working with the hospital to organize refunds and discounts. Please keep Steffon and Phoebe in your thoughts this week as they navigate the new challenges that come with his release from the hospital.

About this fundraiser

Steffon needs your help. He’s in the hospital with a life-threatening condition, and medical bills have already exceeded $70,000 with more on the way.

As friends and family already know, Steffon is currently just a few weeks away from his final interview of his long, arduous visa process to come to the U.S. to be with his wife, Phoebe.

Just a few weeks before this last step — over two years after Steffon and Phoebe got married — Steffon found himself in an incredibly scary medical situation. His aunt brought him to a hospital in Nassau, where he was admitted to the ICU. Since then, he has had multiple general seizures, along with a host of other life threatening complications.

Over the course of the last week, Steffon’s condition has scarcely improved, but to no fault of his own — his doctors have refused him adequate care, left him in squalid conditions, and neglected to tell Phoebe or Steffon’s family his status, treatment plan, or medication regimen.

While Phoebe works day and night to get him moved to a safer hospital, she and Steffon’s loved ones have incurred tens of thousands of dollars of fees — not to mention the money they’ll need for care after he‘s discharged safely.

While we are hopeful that Steffon will pull through and be okay in time to resume his visa process in time to build the life he’s been planning with Phoebe for years, his health and the potential lasting impacts of the negligence he’s endured leave them with a very long road ahead.

To respect his privacy, I will not be sharing more specific details of Steffon’s situation here until he’s able to speak for himself or have Phoebe speak on his behalf as next of kin. Nonetheless, I will keep all donors in the loop on his status and wellbeing.

Any and all donations are greatly appreciated and will go directly to Phoebe, who is handling all medical bills.

If you have any questions, please come to us in order to respect Phoebe’s space as she works tirelessly to advocate for Steffon.
