Latest update as of May 28, 2025

  • We just wanted to say thank you to everyone for your amazing generosity. We feel very fortunate to be surrounded by such wonderful people. The amount of care and support we have received over the past few months has left us speechless, and thank you doesn’t seem an adequate response.

As painful as Grace’s passing has been, we have taken some solace in the fact that after fourteen years of fighting what turned out to be a very rare and debilitating deficiency, she is at peace and is no longer in pain.

Again, thank you to everyone for your support and generosity

About this fundraiser

It is with much respect and appreciation that we come together to support CHP Officer Ryan Starr and his family, wife Brenda Starr and son Jake Starr, as they try to move forward in life after losing their daughter and sister, Grace Starr.

Born in 2011, Grace was born with a non-curable genetic disorder that left her nonverbal and confined to a wheelchair. Devoted to the care of Grace, the Starrs strived to give her a life of enrichment, compassion and love. Brenda took on the role of full-time caregiver while Ryan worked to support the family.

As Grace grew older, her condition worsened, with hospital stays becoming a regular part of their lives. The Starrs would later learn that Grace had been misdiagnosed and her condition much graver than originally thought. In December 2024, Grace would go into the hospital again, and this time, her condition would take such a toll on her small but mighty body that would take her life.

The Starrs are a shining example of family, community and dedication. As their community, we look to care for them as they face a new reality.
