Yesterday, my mom’s apartment caught fire and she lost everything. She has only lived in this apartment for a year; previous to that, she was homeless, so this feels all the more heartbreaking as she was just starting to feel a sense of normalcy and getting settled there.

She ran out of her apartment in her socks and the clothes she had on and has been unable to go back in to grab any of her identification, credit cards, medications, or any clothing or necessities. She takes medication daily for her congestive heart failure and has other health issues she’s dealing with, so it’s imperative we find her stability ASAP.

I am raising funds to cover her basic immediate needs and potentially to cover temporary housing.

Her building is trying to get her placed into another apartment, but as of right now, there is no solution other than cots the Red Cross has set up in her building.

She just had surgery on Tuesday and is supposed to be focusing on staying calm and on recovering, and now she has to battle this situation. I just want to help her in any way I can.
