My sweet son was in a horrific motorcycle accident
Here is everything going on with Zach
Okay so, where to start? Most of his injuries are to his right side… He had multiple open fractures. He has a traumatic brain injury. They put a rod into his skull to relieve pressure and monitor his brain, he has multiple brain bleeds and is intubated, his elbow was dislocated, and they put it back in place, that seems to be stable, his arm is broken in 3 places, his wrist has a few fractures, his hand also has a few fractures, the swelling in his arm is so concerning that they had to basically make an incision from his hand to his elbow to relieve pressure, his hip has multiple fractures, his femur is broken in multiple spots, a piece of his femur was brought in that was on the street. During surgery they couldn’t put it back together as well as they expected, and his knee is broken in multiple areas as well as the knee cap, his ankle is broken, they described it as he left a pretty good portion of the cartilage in his ankle on the road, so unfortunately his ankle will never be the same. There is a chance they can do a fusion to his ankle later on, but there’s also a risk that he will need to be amputated from the ankle down. The injury to his femur they called it limb threatening, they said down the road they can try to put a cement spacer in there but that would be discussed later on. He will need multiple surgeries over the next roughly year and a half but they can’t do any further surgeries now until his brain is healthy enough to be able to withstand long hours of surgery.
After he’s able to leave the hospital he will have to go into a long term rehabilitation center for approximately a year.
He has an extremely long road of recovery ahead.
I have been with him every day since it happened so I haven’t been working. I also have health issues but have been pushing myself because I don’t want to leave my son. He just turned 21 in October. He’s always been such a great kid.
If you can help, share, pray, it’s all appreciated
