On May 17, 2026, I was in an accident involving a deep fryer with 6-8 gallons of 375 degree fry oil that hit me in the knees, I slipped and fell on my backside unable to get up on my own. Thankfully, my husband was there to pull me to safety or the outcome could have been much worse! The drain that was pumping the oil out was inches from my head and face, yet I was free from burns on my face, arms or hands.
We immediately began pouring bottles of water onto my burns. After that I was able to get my clothes changed, and I drove myself to the closest hospital. The burn bed available at Cabell-Huntington was occupied and the University Of Cincinnati Medical Center admitted me into the Burn ICU as soon as I arrived via ambulance. It was estimated that I had an approximate 15% of my body with 2nd and 3rd degree burns to my knees and backside.
I was in the ICU 5 nights and was released home with a follow-up on the following Tuesday. At that appointment in burn clinic, I was direct admitted back into the ICU due to my wounds not appearing to be healing and looking to be infected. I spent another 16 nights and was discharged again last week.
Since my accident, Bill has not been at work regularly and that has given us a substantial hardship we weren’t prepared for along with continued trips to and from Cincinnati that continues to add more debt in the weeks and months to come. The average trip to Cincinnati and back is $120 in fuel, additional $80-$125 in hotel expense and food/drink is additional.
I appreciate those that have took the time to read this. The last thing we wanted to do is ask for help, but at this time we need to. I appreciate your prayers in the months to come. Thank you!
