Tango entered my life as a foster dog, but he quickly became a testament to the heartbreaking gaps in our animal welfare system. When the shelter handed him over to me, I was devastated by his condition. He arrived drastically underweight, his body mapping a painful history of raw cuts and scrapes. More concerningly, he is suffering from a severe, debilitating issue with his back legs that makes sitting, standing, and walking an agonizing struggle.

Seeing him in obvious distress, I followed the shelter’s explicit instructions and rushed him to an emergency veterinary hospital. The gravity of his condition was undeniable—Tango had to be wheeled out of the facility on a medical gurney.

What happened next was a profound moral disappointment. Despite his critical mobility issues, the shelter administration refused to authorize the funds for the essential bloodwork, X-rays, and diagnostic tests he desperately needs. They claimed he was "stable," using a cold, bureaucratic word to deny him the basic quality of life he inherently deserves.

A gurney is not stability. It is a crisis.

I refuse to let Tango be discarded by the institutions meant to protect him. Because they will not invest in his healing, I am stepping up to take full responsibility for his life. My immediate goal is to formally adopt Tango myself, removing him permanently from this cycle of neglect.
