Urgent Appeal: Please help our brave warrior Randy fight against nasopharyngeal cancer
Dear family, friends, colleagues, and every kind-hearted person who is willing to listen:
Hello, everyone.
I am Lisa Roberts. At this moment, on behalf of my husband, Randy Roberts, I am writing this weighty letter of request. We are currently engaged in the most challenging battle of our lives, and at this very moment, we humbly and earnestly ask for your support.
1. He is Randy: a man who has never stopped striving.
Randy is an electrician, and also a husband who loves outdoor activities and a father of two teenagers. He is the kind of person you would want to be your neighbor, friend or colleague - reliable, humorous, and always willing to lend a helping hand. His hands can fix any circuit, and he can skillfully set up tents to take us to the mountains to witness the most beautiful starry sky. He is the foundation of our family, and everything to me and my children.
II. The Silent Invasion: From Minor Symptoms to Severe Diagnosis
A few months ago, Randy began to notice some "minor problems": a feeling of congestion in one ear, decreased hearing, frequent nasal congestion, and blood in the nasal discharge. We initially thought it was an allergy or a persistent sinus infection.
After multiple antibiotic treatments failed to work, we insisted on conducting a more thorough examination. The endoscopy and the final biopsy result brought our world to a standstill. The diagnosis stated: Advanced Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC).
Nasopharyngeal cancer is a malignant tumor located at the back of the nose and the upper part of the throat. Due to its concealed location, its early symptoms are easily overlooked, and by the time it is detected, it is often no longer in the early stage. Randy's cancer falls into this category.
III. Battle Plan: A Difficult Comprehensive Treatment
The doctor quickly formulated an aggressive but necessary treatment plan. This was not merely a surgical operation, but rather a comprehensive battle involving surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
Surgery (endoscopic nasopharyngeal resection): Due to the deep location of the tumor and its proximity to vital blood vessels and nerves, traditional surgery would be extremely difficult. The doctors will employ advanced endoscopic minimally invasive surgical techniques to remove the tumor through the nasal passage as much as possible. This is the crucial first step in the treatment.
Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT): After the surgery, Randy needs to undergo several weeks of highly precise radiotherapy to ensure that all cancer cells are eliminated. The radiotherapy area is close to the brain, spinal cord, salivary glands and optic nerve, and it will cause severe side effects.
Concurrent chemotherapy: During the radiotherapy period, he will concurrently undergo chemotherapy to enhance the effect of radiotherapy and combat any potential metastasized cancer cells.
This process was long and painful, severely affecting his swallowing, eating, hearing and saliva functions. But it was the only hope to save his life and give our family a future.
Four. Families on the Cliff Edge: Why Do We Need Your Help?
As an electrician, Randy has health insurance. However, for such a complex and long-term comprehensive treatment, the coverage of the insurance is far from sufficient. The huge out-of-pocket expenses we need to bear include:
High out-of-pocket medical expenses: The self-payment portions for surgical anesthesiologists, some surgical costs, as well as the self-payment fees for each radiotherapy and chemotherapy session (Co-pays) are accumulating rapidly. Our insurance's out-of-pocket maximum is an amount that we find it difficult to bear on our own.
Special medications and nutritional support: The treatment will cause Randy to be unable to eat normally. He will require expensive prescription nutritional supplements and special medications to alleviate side effects, most of which are not fully covered by insurance.
Related medical expenses: During the treatment period, additional costs will be incurred for dental protection (to prevent radiation damage), speech therapy, and swallowing therapy.
Income disruption: Randy is completely unable to work. I (Lisa) have significantly reduced my work hours as an administrative assistant in order to fully take care of him. Our family income has almost dropped to zero, but mortgage payments, car loans, insurance, and living bills have never stopped.
After consulting with the social worker from the oncology center, we estimated that the initial funding gap would be at least $8,500. This amount will be directly used to cover the out-of-pocket expenses for the upcoming surgery, the first round of radiotherapy, as well as the essential nutritional supplements and medications for the next two months.
V. Your kind deeds are the oxygen that keeps us going.
Any donation you make will be directly converted into:
One radiotherapy treatment: It is an attack that precisely kills cancer cells and saves his life.
The special nutrient solution for a week: It was the lifeline that sustained his physical strength and combat ability when he was unable to swallow food.
A dose of pain-relieving medication: It is a blessing that allows him to find a moment of peace amidst the torment of the treatment.
Paying our household's electricity bill for one month: This is a fundamental guarantee that enables our children to spend this difficult period in a bright and stable home.
We fully understand that not everyone can provide financial support. If you are unable to donate, you can still give us an incredibly precious boost by sharing this appeal letter on your social network, praying for our entire family, or sending an encouraging message. Every share you make is adding reinforcements to the battle for Randy's life.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and the hope you have given to our family. Please help our warrior, help Randy, win this battle and return to his beloved family and the starry sky he loves.
With the deepest hope and gratitude,
Lisa Roberts (on behalf of Randy Roberts and his entire family) respectfully presents this.
