Heather DeHaven’s passion in life was to always serve those in need. As a wife, mother of two, and employee, she always put others before herself. She dreamt of receiving her Master’s Degree in Social Work and helping military families impacted by devastating medical diagnoses. As a military spouse and Marine Corps civil servant, this was something close to her heart. However, in 2017, in the midst of her studies that would make this dream a reality, it was confirmed that Heather was demonstrating symptoms of Huntington’s Disease (HD).
Over the past 6 years, Heather has been fighting the devastating progression of HD. Due to her age, Heather‘s family has been forced to endure a relentless fight to ensure she receives an appropriate level of care to give her the best quality of life. Fortunately, Heather is now receiving amazing care at Bayview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in New Bern, NC. While Medicaid covers the majority of the cost for her long term care, Heather is thriving in a single room. As a younger resident, having this room allows her to have a small space to herself. This is a perfect fit for her at this point in her HD journey. Unfortunately, a private room is not covered by Medicaid and costs an additional $1500 a month.
By raising $20,000, we can ensure Heather enjoys another 12 months with this arrangement. We would greatly appreciate your support.
