Hi, my name is Jacci and this is my story.
In July 2022 at 19 years old, I moved out. From Kansas to Texas, I moved almost 12 hours away from home. Away from my family and my friends. I moved out in hopes to start my own journey and to go to college to become an Elementary school teacher. One month later I ended up being rushed to the hospital by ambulance. Little did I know that it would be the start of the longest and toughest journey of my life, in which I was not ready for. Alone, scared, and confused I didn’t know what to do. After that initial hospital visit, I was constantly in and out of hospitals due to severe headaches only to be told that they couldn’t find anything and there was nothing to be done to help. It was only when I finally fought to go to an oncologist that it was discovered that my iron count was extremely low. Thus began a long series of blood tests where it was concluded that my iron needed to be fixed with an iron infusion. What should have been a simple fix proved to be the exact opposite. They did tons of blood tests when they finally decided that it was time to try and fix my iron. So, they scheduled an iron infusion. When we went to do the infusion they pretreated for a slight allergy to the iron, this is because in the past I’ve been itchy and would get hives with the oral iron intake. It happened quickly. I started getting itchy and then I went into full anaphylactic shock. After I recovered, I was sent to an allergist where it was discovered that what was thought to be a slight iron allergy was actually an extremely severe iron allergy. So, my iron treatment was adjusted to account for this new revelation and my iron levels improved for a few months but now the iron is no longer staying in my bloodstream. My body is starting to fail, my organs have already begun shutting down. I need an extensive lifesaving treatment where they will put me in the hospital for an extended period of time and give me very small amounts of iron in the hopes that I can start getting iron on my own. If I don’t get this treatment I will pass away. During that time my parents and I will have to be off work due to the hospital that I need being so far away. I have past medical bills I need to pay off from the times I’ve been in the hospital in the past. I will also need to cover living costs. On top of all this I’ve been staying in a broken-down camper. During one of the rainstorms one of the slide outs broke and put over 100 gallons of water inside and under the trailer. There is now black mold throughout the whole thing. So, when I am released from the hospital I can’t go home. So I need to get an apartment or somewhere I can live. Not only when I’m recovering but for a good while to get my feet back underneath me. It will take some time and I can no longer do it on my own. The funds from this would be used to assist with all my medical bills and living costs while I’m in the hospital. Any help you can provide whether that is keeping me in your thoughts, a donation, or sharing my story would be greatly appreciated.
