On the outside, Scarlet looks like your typical 9 year old girl. On the inside, Scarlets body has gone through more than most people will ever understand. Scarlet has a rare genetic condition called Alpers Syndrome- a defect in her POLG gene. Alpers is an “umbrella“ term for all of her different medical conditions. Alpers is a mitochondrial disease that affects different organs.
